Unlock the secrets of compelling storytelling in both short form and long form improv in this workshop, where screenwriting technique meets the spontaneity of improvisation. Inspired by books (« Story » by Robert McKee, « Save The Cat » by Blake Snyder), writing experience (our instructor Kevin has written & produced plays and films) and improv experience (Kevin’s improv duo Scratch has been using this narrative approach for more than a decade!), this class is where theory meets practical application. Whether you’re a seasoned performer or just beginning your improv journey, this workshop offers invaluable insights and hands-on practice to elevate your narrative skills.

Focus on Kevin Gillese

Kevin is a Canadian comedy writer and performer with more than twenty years of experience squeezing laughs out of audiences. He has written or co-written ten plays that have been produced at theatres in Canada and the United States. And he has written and produced dozens of short films, online sketches and web series… some of which are actually pretty good. In 2023 he released his debut feature film « How To Ruin The Holidays » which he wrote and produced. And his debut comedy special « 7 Minutes in Kevin » will be released on Tubi in 2025, it’s « a side-splitting stand-up show that’s not to be missed. » (Edmonton Journal)

Kevin started out as an improviser & writer in Edmonton way back in the late 90s. He worked with improv institution, Rapid Fire Theatre, and eventually became the Artistic Director there for several years by the late 2000s. In 2010 he moved to Atlanta to take the Artistic Director job at Dad’s Garage Theatre, a position he held for exactly a decade, during which time he oversaw the development and production of over thirty original comedic plays as well as countless improv formats and comedy events.

Kevin’s improv duo « Scratch » has been performing together since 2005 and has been called « the best improv show I’ve ever seen » (VUE magazine) and « the apex of Comedy Mountain » (SEE magazine).
